Your numbers never leave your device
This is a calculator, not a business that wants to know you. Here is exactly what happens to what you type.

The short version: the sums happen inside your own browser. The numbers you type are never sent to us, never stored anywhere, and disappear when you close the page. There are no accounts and no sign-ups. We do count visits with Google Analytics, which sets two cookies and records which pages were opened — never what you typed into them.
This policy explains that in full. It covers Online Simple Calculator and every page on this website. If anything here is unclear, please ask — an explanation you cannot follow is not really consent.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for, receive or store:
- Your name, email address or phone number
- Any account, because there is nothing to sign up for
- Any number you type into a calculator — your bill, your salary, your rent, your exam marks, your grades or anything else
- Your precise location
- Anything at all about you from other websites
This is not a promise about being careful with your data. It is a description of how the site is built. Every calculator runs as a small program inside your own browser, so the numbers never travel anywhere for us to see. There is no database of your calculations, because there is no database.
What your browser remembers
Two things are saved on your own device so you do not have to set them again on every visit. They are kept in your browser's local storage, which means they stay on your device and are never sent to us or to anyone else.
- Your appearance choice — whether you picked the light or dark version of the site. Saved under the name
theme. - Your calculator settings — the country used for tipping suggestions, the grading scale your school uses, the formula for converting a CGPA, and your chosen language. Saved together under the name
dsc:prefs.
That is the complete list. None of it identifies you, and none of it is personal information: knowing that a browser somewhere prefers dark mode and the ten-point grading scale tells nobody who is holding the phone. Your marks and your money are never among the things saved.
You can remove all of it at any time by clearing your browsing data in your browser settings. Nothing breaks — the site simply goes back to following your system appearance and asking for your settings again.
How the tipping suggestion guesses your country
The tip calculator suggests amounts that are normal where you are, because advising an American tip everywhere in the world is unhelpful and sometimes wrong. To do that it reads the region already set in your own browser and, failing that, your device's time zone. This happens entirely on your device, involves no request to us or to anyone else, and is only ever a starting suggestion — the country is named on screen and you can change it in one tap.
Cookies
This site sets two cookies, and both belong to Google Analytics. They are described in the next section. Apart from those, nothing here uses cookies.
_ga— Tells one visitor apart from another, so that ten pages opened by one person are not counted as ten people. It holds a randomly generated number and nothing else. Kept for 2 years._ga_QL5HSEW9EK— Keeps track of a single sitting, so that moving between calculators counts as one visit rather than several. The part after the underscore is this site's own measurement ID. Kept for 2 years.
Neither holds your name, your location or anything you typed into a calculator. You can delete both at any time by clearing your browsing data, and the section below explains how to stop them being set at all.
The settings described above — your appearance choice and your calculator settings — arenot cookies. Cookies are sent to a server with every request; local storage is not sent anywhere at all, which is why it is used for those.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics to count how many people visit and which calculators they use. It cannot see anything you type into a calculator.
We use it for one reason: to know which calculators are worth improving. Without it there is no way to tell whether a page is helping anybody, or whether a rewrite made something clearer or worse. It measures pages, not people.
What Google Analytics records when you visit:
- Which pages you looked at, in what order, and for roughly how long
- Which site or search engine you arrived from
- Your approximate location — the country and usually the city, never a street or address
- Your device type, operating system, browser, screen size and language
- A randomly generated number stored in the two cookies above, so that several pages viewed in one sitting count as one visit rather than five
What it does not, and cannot, record:
- Anything you type into a calculator. Your bill, your salary, your rent, your marks and your grades are worked out inside your browser and are never transmitted, so there is nothing for Google to receive. This has not changed and is not going to.
- Your name, email address or any way of identifying you personally
- Your precise location
Google works out your approximate location from your IP address and then, according to Google's own documentation for this product, does not store the address itself. Google is acting as our data processor here, and its handling of the data is covered by theGoogle Privacy Policy. Google is based in the United States, so this information is processed outside your country if you live elsewhere.
How to turn it off
You are under no obligation to be counted, and refusing changes nothing about how the site works — every calculator behaves exactly the same either way.
- Install Google's ownopt-out browser add-on, which stops Google Analytics on every site, not only this one.
- Turn on tracking protection in your browser. Firefox, Safari and Brave block this by default, and most ad blockers do too.
- Clear your browsing data to delete the two cookies. They will not identify you again.
Advertising
No advertisements are shown on this site at present.
We do intend to show a small number of advertisements in future, because hosting costs money and the site is free. When that happens, this section will be updated with the name of the advertising provider before a single advertisement appears, and the following will be true of it:
- Advertising providers commonly set their own cookies and read technical information such as your IP address, browser and approximate region, in order to choose which advertisement to show and to count how often it was seen. That is their processing, under their own privacy policy, and we will link to it here.
- Advertisers will never receive anything you type into a calculator. Those numbers do not leave your device, so there is nothing for us to pass on even if we wanted to.
- Every advertisement will be labelled as an advertisement, kept away from the calculator buttons, and never made to look like part of the tool.
- Where the law requires your consent for advertising cookies, you will be asked before they are set, and refusing will not stop you using any calculator on this site.
Our hosting provider
The pages of this site are served by a hosting company. Like every web host, its servers keep short-term technical records of requests they receive, which typically include the IP address making the request, the page asked for, the time, and the browser and operating system in use. This is ordinary infrastructure logging — it is how any website is kept running and protected from attack — and it happens for every site you visit, not only this one.
We do not use those records to build a picture of you, we do not combine them with anything else, and they contain nothing you typed into a calculator.
Children
A great many of the people using the school and grade calculators are children, and that is exactly who they were written for. We ask for nothing that could identify a child: no name, no email address, no account, and nothing they type into a calculator ever leaves their device. The visit counting described above works the same for everybody and cannot tell a child from an adult, because it does not know who anyone is. There is no way for a child to reveal anything about themselves here, and we would not know what to do with it if there were.
Your rights
Data protection laws such as the GDPR in Europe and the United Kingdom, and the CCPA in California, give you rights over personal information a website holds about you: to see it, to correct it, to have it deleted, and to object to it being sold.
Those rights apply to us in full, and here is the honest position. We hold nothing that names you: no account, no email address, and none of the numbers you type. The one thing that counts as personal information under these laws is the randomly generated visitor number Google Analytics keeps in a cookie, together with the approximate location and device details attached to it. It cannot be traced back to you by us, but the law treats it as yours, and so do we.
- To stop it entirely: use any of the three methods in the analytics section above. That is the fastest route, works immediately, and needs nothing from us.
- To have it deleted: write to us. We can ask Google to delete the data tied to your visitor number, and we will.
- To object, or to ask what we hold: write to us and we will answer honestly, including telling you if the answer is "nothing we can find".
We have never sold or shared personal information with anyone, for money or otherwise, and we do not intend to. The settings stored on your device are yours to erase whenever you like, without asking us.
Links to other websites
A few pages link to other websites, such as the illustrators whose artwork we use. Once you follow a link you are on somebody else's site, under their privacy policy, and we have no control over what they do. It is worth a glance at their policy before you type anything into their pages.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Where a change is significant — new advertising, analytics, or anything that involves collecting information we do not collect today — we will say so plainly here rather than quietly rewording a paragraph.
